The Quattro Plant superbike was struck by mechanical problems during the weekend.  Steve’s qualifying session was cut short having only completed one lap.  Luckily the one and only flying lap was a quick one and Steve qualified well.

The bike was repaired overnight, however during warmup on race day, the Honda Fireblade was struck by a gear selector problem.  The team managed to replace the gear selector shaft in time for race 1, however it had not solved the problem and after a good start, Steve was forced to retire after just a handful of laps.

Clutch problems plagued the Quattro Plant Honda during practice and qualifying, but Steve raced well in race 1 to move up the grid a couple of places for the Race 2 start.  Images below

Quattro Video Footage from Round 8 of the 2010 British Superbike Championship

The Quatto Plant Honda team arrived at Brands Hatch on Thursday with high hopes, the freshly rebuilt engine didn’t provide the much needed power that Steve needs to compete at this level.  A few changes to the mappings improved things, but not to the point where Steve could put in the lap times we know he capable of.

Race 1 : Steve high-sided the Quattro Superbike exiting Graham Hill bend on Lap 1 as a result of a hose bursting and spilling the cooling system contents on the rear tyre just two corners earlier.

Race 2 : Steve was pushing hard when the front wheel went away from him on the positive cambered Stirling left handed, just 1 lap after Tommy Bridewell went down in the exact same place.  Oil flags were shown after Steve went down.

Race 3 : Unfortunately, the bikes was too badly damaged in Race 2 to repair in the limited time available.

Snetterton played host to Round 7 of the British Superbike Championship.   Quattro Plant’s Steve Heneghan had some very positive warm up sessions and during qualifying found good feel with the bike on qualifying tyres, however it was just too late to go for it due to a slight issue with tyre stickers.

Steve raced well in both races but the power of a privateer’s bike is no match on the long straights of Snetteron to the larger teams and their ultra powerful engines.

It’s that time again and the Quattro Plant Honda team have crossed the Irish sea and are preparing for tomorrow’s race at the North West 200, one of the last true road races left.

Practice has been challenging for all the riders, with Tuesday’s 2 hour session being red flagged due to oil on the track at Station Corner.  Steve did manage to get some much required track time with the freshly build superbike and learnt alot about the setup and the changes required to the bike.

With the changes made to the bike, Steve was eager to get some good times under his belt during Thursday’s practice session and get a good grid position for Saturday’s race, however it was not to be, first rain stopped play and then secondly Steve Plater crash at Quarry Hill brought out a second red flag.

Despite this Steve is confident for tomorrow’s race and we wish Steve good luck for tomorrow’s races.

The Quatto Plant Honda team have worked furiously during the last 2 week since the high speed crash at Thruxton, but unfortunately due to the severity of the crash and the fact that fire wrecked just about every component on the bike, the team will not be appearing at Outlton Park.

The team now have secured all the parts from their suppliers and are currently in the process of building the new Quattro Plant Honda Superbike.

CHALLENGING TIMES FOR QUATTRO PLANT HONDA AT THRUXTON

Quattro Plant Honda had a nightmare weekend at Thruxton during the second round of the 2010 British Superbike Championship.

Steve Heneghan initially made excellent progress after fixing some serious alignment issues on the Quattro Plant Honda Evo bike, identified after round 1 at Brands Hatch. During the first qualifying session Heneghan put in his fastest ever lap at Thruxton, leaving him 18th overall, but disaster struck on lap 2. A huge crash on the rundown into church corner when the front end tucked and cart wheeled the bike into the air at 150mph. A lack of working fire extinguishers with the marshals meant the fire took hold and destroyed the bike. Fortunately Heneghan was uninjured. The team is working flat out to have the bike ready for round 3 at Oulton park, but the decision is left hanging in the balance as they await delivery of some key parts. It’s not all bad news though, there may be some exciting developments to announce from Quattro Plant Honda very soon so watch this space…

Heneghan said: “I’m gutted about the bike and all the hard work the team had put into getting it running so well, we’re doing all we can to be ready in time for Oulton. I’ve got a great team behind me and a lot of support from Quattro Plant so there’s every chance we’ll be there ”

Crew chief Aaron O’Flaherty said: “We’ve got our work cut out for us over the next week or so but we’re a hardworking team and I’ve got every confidence we can get the bike rebuilt. It’s good to get any bad luck out of the way early on in the season”
